The Dumont d'Urville scientific station in the Antarctic is one of the most remote places on earth. Jonathan, a young researcher, is about to spend one year in this station.
After four months of summer, the longest winter on Earth is settling in. The pack ice replaces the open sea. With temperatures as low as -37° C and winds of up to 300 kph, even the most resilient animals leave the region.
The station soon becomes inaccessible, and everyone leaves, with the exception of Emperor penguins... and a handful of people who stay behind.
Entirely cut off from the world, even in case of a serious medical emergency, Jonathan and his fellow winterovers will spend eight months living totally self-sufficient lives on the station, without any supplies, Internet, television or contact with the outside world...
Camera in hand, Jonathan is going to film the entire winter season of a polar mission: a poignant and exceptional experience for the first time on screen.
Discover Jonathan’s amazing video journal and share the authentic overwinter experience through the eyes of those who were there, from the newcomer’s traditional dip in -1° C water to the improvised soccer games on the ice pack, to the indescribable parties.
Experience 365 days in the ice fields, 3,000km away from any coast, one year of total isolation, and step behind the scenes for a first-hand view of the astonishing life of polar expeditions!
